We can suggest a stay in the Bariloche area on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi or for a more remote experience head a few hours north to the area around the small Andean towns of Villa La Angostura and San Martin de Los Andes. Beautifully picturesque, the likes of Villa La Angostura are very much akin to Bariloche 20-30 years ago when it was itself a small ski resort town.
