Six Senses Gangtey

Gangtey, Bumthang & Beyond

Set high above Bhutan’s Phobjikha Valley, Six Senses Gangtey is a sanctuary of stillness and beauty. With just eight suites and one two-bedroom villa, the lodge offers an intimate and highly personalised stay, each space designed with floor-to-ceiling windows to frame the sweeping views of this glacial valley. At an elevation of 2,900 meters on the western slopes of the Black Mountains, the valley is a designated conservation area and the winter home for the endangered black-necked cranes that migrate from Tibet each year between October and March.

Accommodation

Known as the "Bird Watching Bridge" the lodge has been built using local stone and timber. The interiors are warm and refined, blending traditional Bhutanese character with the understated luxury Six Senses is known for. Thoughtful touches such as private balconies, in-room binoculars, and a central bukhari (wood-burning stove) invite guests to slow down and savour the landscape.

Food & Drink

The dining experience centres around seasonal produce, much of it sourced from local farms and the lodge’s own organic garden. After a day exploring, the Six Senses Spa offers a restorative space with treatments inspired by Bhutanese wellness traditions and uninterrupted views of the valley beyond.

Experiences

Experiences are deeply rooted in the place. Guests can join sunrise meditations, light butter lamps at nearby temples, walk the Gangtey Nature Trail through pine forests, or visit the 17th-century Gangtey Goempa monastery to witness evening prayers. From October to March, this is also one of the best places to observe black-necked cranes in the wild.

Six Senses Gangtey is ideal for those looking to unplug, reconnect and experience Bhutan’s spiritual heartland in comfort and style.

Why we recommend Six Senses Gangtey

The Phobjikha Valley is, debatably,  one of the most visually striking landscapes in Bhutan. The valley itself is wide and glacial, home to the endangered black-necked cranes that migrate here from Tibet between October and February. The Six Senses lodge is perched just above the wetlands, and each room has its own telescope and sweeping views.
