If you looking for a city break with a little sun, why not throw your towel down on one of these glamorous beaches?

DUBAI

Dubai takes beach days to another level. Not only does it offer golden sand, cerulean surf and blue skies, but it offers endless treats to entertain you while you’re catching some rays. Take a stroll along JBR Beach and stop for coffee or gelato in one of its many cafes. Or hire an SUP at Kitesurfing beach and go for a paddle around the Burj. Need some privacy? Then head to one of five-star beach hotels along the beach front where you’ll find the comfiest loungers, pool staff that will clean your sunglasses and waiters that will serve you trays of fresh fruit and ice cream.

RIO

Leave Ipanema to the crowds and take a trip to Praia Vermelha. With Sugarloaf Mountain as your backdrop, this city beach takes some beating. Fans love the brown sugar sand and the sheltered cove that makes it easy for swimming. After taking a dip in the Atlantic, kickback with a fresh coconut from one of the beach shacks and top up your tan. Visitors at sunset will get to find out why the beach is called Vermelha, because when the sun drops out of the sky it starts to take on a crimson glow.

SYDNEY

Bondi may have the celebrity lifeguards, but Bronte is where you really need to throw down your towel. Loved by surfers for its rolling waves, this stretch of golden sand is also less touristy than Bondi. It is the perfect place to go for a swim and enjoy the café culture afterwards. However, if you want to stretch your legs you can stroll along the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk to enjoy some of the best places in New South Wales.

HONG KONG

Looking for an adventure? Then catch a boat to Tai Long Wan (Big Wave Bay). You can rent sports gear on the beach and take to the surf, or you can take a hike to the waterfall and cool off in its natural pool. If you’re feeling even more daring, you can hike up the rocks and jump Beyonce style from the cliffs into the water.

CAPE TOWN

You can never have too much of a good thing – which is why Clifton Beach comprises not one, not two, but four beaches separated by granite boulders. With the famed Millionaire’s Row on the shore and picturesque yachts dotted around the bay, it’s not hard to see why it’s been named the St Tropez of South Africa. The First Beach in Cape Town is a favourite with muscle-bound surfers and volleyball players, while the Second and Third Beaches are a favourite with sun seekers and the Fourth Beach for families.
