PUQIO

The only camp of its kind in Peru, PUQIO redefines rustic charm deep in the heart of the Colca Canyon. Canvas tents harken back to times of remote exploration, while earthen adobe rooms blend harmoniously into the surrounding high desert landscape. Here, each detail–from the hot tubs to the organic amenities and bedding–has been carefully curated for maximum comfort.

The guides at PUQIO are second to none and each stay includes an array of excursions into and beyond the Colca Canyon. Ranging from a few hours to full-day guests can choose from trekking, horseriding, mountain biking, nature & wildlife excursions plus much more.

Accommodation

There are three room categories at PUQIO - Pirca, Carpa & Carpa Refugio - each room is inspired by the original canvas tents of the first Andean explorers, crafted with rugged canvas to protect you from the elements.
Carpa Refugio - The most commanding of PUQIO’s canvas tents, the Carpa Refugio boasts a sizable indoor living area and terrace, a wood-burning stove, and a separate mud room.

Carpa - This spacious stand-alone accommodation features an outdoor terrace with a sitting area, a wood-burning stove, a plunge pool, and indoor and outdoor showers.

Pirca - Each Pirca is appointed with a bathtub, wood-burning stove, and private outdoor terrace with a sitting area —complete with some of the best views at PUQIO.

Gastronomy

At PUQIO each family-style meal is crafted using traditional methods and the freshest produce available in the local terroir. Whether you visit in the green or the gold season, your menu will be seasonal and locally inspired. This is farm-to-table dining, Andean style.

Activities & Excursions

Location & Getting there

Located 3 hours north of Arequipa, PUQIO is about 1.5 km from Yanque.

The Colca Valley is known for its impressive depth, reaching a maximum depth of around 3,400 meters (11,150 feet) from the rim of the Canyon to the bottom of the valley.

The weather fluctuates based on location and time of year. It has two main seasons: Gold (May to October) and Green (November to April). However, due to the valley’s altitude, weather can be unpredictable, ranging from 10°C to 24°C during the day and 10°C to 0°C at night.
