Camp Cecil de la Bahia

Baja California

Camp Cecil de la Bahia is a seasonal, eco-conscious luxury tented camp in Magdalena Bay, Baja California Sur, specialising in grey whale encounters from January to March. Operated by Todos Santos Eco Adventures, the camp sits between the open bay, frequented by migrating whales, and a protected estuary rich in birdlife and marine species. Each winter, grey whales travel over 6,000 miles from Arctic waters to these calm lagoons to mate and give birth, making this one of the most important whale-watching regions in the world. Remote, intimate and deeply connected to its surroundings, Camp Cecil is a standout choice for a luxury holiday to Mexico rooted in nature and wildlife.

Accommodation

The camp features eight walk-in safari-style tents, designed to balance comfort with a close connection to the environment. Each tent includes a proper bed, seating area, rugs, soft lighting and a private ensuite bathroom. Waking to the sound of the ocean and wide-open skies, guests are immersed in nature without sacrificing ease or privacy.

Food & drink

All meals are served on site, with breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared fresh each day using simple, nourishing ingredients. Evenings often end with a drink at dusk, watching the light fade, and the stars emerge over the bay.

Activities

Whale encounters form the heart of each stay, with daily boat excursions led by bilingual naturalist guides offering remarkable interactions with grey whale mothers and calves. Beyond the water, guests can swim with sea lions, explore mangrove estuaries, kayak calm channels or hike the island to learn about local ecology and history. Days are flexible and tailored to your interests, making each experience feel personal and unhurried.

Children

Children are welcome at Camp Cecil de la Bahia, making it a memorable option for families seeking an enriching, educational luxury holiday in Mexico.

Best time to go

The camp operates during peak grey whale season, from late January to mid-March, when sightings are at their most consistent and rewarding.
