Gal Oya Lodge

Sri Lanka's Eastern Province

Nestled amidst the untouched wilderness of Gal Oya National Park in eastern Sri Lanka, Gal Oya Lodge is a hidden gem offering a tranquil, immersive escape into nature. Surrounded by jungle and dramatic mountain scenery, the lodge feels a world away from the crowds, with a beautiful pool inviting guests to cool off while soaking up the views. Combining rustic charm with sustainable luxury, this ten-bungalow eco-lodge is ideal for travellers seeking authentic, off-the-beaten-track adventure and close encounters with Sri Lanka’s unique wildlife – whether tracking elephants by boat, walking with local Veddah tribes, or simply reconnecting with the rhythms of the wild.

Accommodation

Gal Oya Lodge features ten spacious bungalow suites, including a two-bedroom villa, each blending seamlessly with the surrounding jungle. Built using locally sourced materials, the rooms are open and airy, allowing you to feel connected to the natural environment. Interiors are minimalist yet comfortable, with king-sized beds, expansive indoor/outdoor bathrooms and private verandahs offering views of the jungle and mountains. Select bungalows and the family villa also feature a private infinity-edge plunge pool. To enhance comfort during the warmer months, discreet air-conditioning units have been introduced above the bed areas in all bungalows. This targeted approach ensures a restful night’s sleep while minimising energy consumption.

Food & Drink

The lodge prides itself on offering fresh, locally sourced meals that celebrate Sri Lankan flavours. The open-air restaurant serves a rotating menu based on seasonal ingredients, much of which are sourced from the on-site organic garden. Signature dishes include aromatic curries and freshly baked bread. The bar, with its jungle backdrop, is the perfect spot for a sundowner, offering a small but well-curated selection of wines, beers, and cocktails.

Children

Gal Oya Lodge welcomes families and offers unique experiences for children to connect with nature.

Sustainability is at the heart of Gal Oya Lodge. Solar power is used extensively, and water is sourced from a natural spring. Additionally, the lodge is actively involved in wildlife conservation, with a special focus on elephant conservation efforts.
