Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

Maldives

A 30-minute seaplane ride from the airport, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island sits across two natural islands in the South Ari Atoll. Rangali is reserved for adults only, while the larger Rangalifinolhu is family-oriented, making this one of the few properties built to suit both - an ideal choice for a luxury holiday to the Maldives. The islands are joined by a 500-metre footbridge, and each delivers a distinct, authentically Maldivian setting. The resort is best known for its marine conservation work, its diving and snorkelling access, and the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant.

Accommodation

151 villas occupy two private islands, with accommodation styles divided by island to suit different travellers. Rangalifinolhu Island, the main island, is designed for families and groups, featuring beachfront villas, 21 spa water villas, and family-oriented facilities. The smaller island, Rangali Island, allows only guests over 16 and features exclusively overwater villas. The resort is also home to the Muraka, the world's first underwater residence.

Food & drink

Across 12 dining venues, guests move through a wide range of culinary styles. The standout is Ithaa, the world's first all-glass undersea restaurant, set five metres below the surface with 180-degree views of the surrounding reef.

Experiences

The South Ari Atoll is known for year-round whale shark and manta ray sightings. Guests can dive, sail by catamaran, or spend time at the resort's Overwater Spa.

Children

The two-island layout cleanly divides the resort: Rangalifinolhu is geared toward families, with a kids' club and playground. Children and teens have dedicated clubs, wellness and watersports programmes, and their own pool, while the grand water villas carry no age restriction - making this a strong base for a luxury family holiday to the Maldives.

Sustainability

Sustainability runs through the property's operations, from coral regeneration to solar power and community-led initiatives. The resort has eliminated 80% of single-use plastic, cut energy consumption by 40% across the island, and built a hydroponic garden to reduce imports and support local food security.

Best time to go

December to April is peak dry season - low humidity, minimal rainfall, and temperatures holding between 29°C and 31°C. It's also the busiest and most expensive period, as availability books out early. May to November brings the southwest monsoon, with more rain and wind but still long sunny spells, better rates, and stronger conditions for surfers.

How to get there

Fly into Velana International Airport, then transfer by seaplane for a 30-minute flight across the ocean to the resort.

Why we recommend Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

Located on two natural Maldivian islands in the South Ari Atoll, the resort is known for exceptional access to marine life, a result of the atoll's conservation efforts and untouched surroundings. Guests have access to year-round whale shark sightings, a rarity even by Maldivian standards.
