Things to do

There are plenty of things to do in Tokyo, as this is a city rich in culture, where the past and future meet. Watch a trained geisha in action at a maiko performance, or pick your very own kimono under the guidance of a professional.

Tokyo is a metropolis of adventure. Around every corner there is a fascinating little nook to explore, be it a shop offering quaint trinkets, a quiet Japanese tea house, or a gathering of youth in some seriously outlandish costumes.

Famed for being the shopping capital of Japan, you can head to Harajuku’s Takeshita Street for a spending spree, or Shinjuku district for some entertainment. At the end of the day, you can venture to the Yotsuya Arakicho district to enjoy the Michelin-starred Japanese restaurants and local nightlife.

Places to visit

You can get a bird’s eye view of the city from the top of Tokyo Skytree, the tallest tower in the world. From there, find the various iconic landmarks, before coming back down and taking a peaceful walk in one of the city's lush gardens, filled with cherry blossoms during the spring season. The Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is particularly beautiful, so this long-admired spot is worth a visit during your stay in the city.

You can also visit a second viewpoint by going to Tokyo Tower, a landmark that’s brimming with history. Throughout the city, stop by various museums to learn more about Tokyo’s fascinating past.

Beyond the city, we also recommend a day trip to Kamakura, a sleepy seaside resort town about an hour south of Tokyo. This was the capital of the country for about 200 years and is home to some of Japan’s most beautiful temples and shrines.
