Set in the heart of South Africa’s Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, adjacent to Kruger National Park, RockFig Safari Lodge is ideally situated for forays into the African wilds. Game drives let you explore in the comfort of a vehicle, while walking safaris put you right on the ground, discovering the area under your own steam.

RockFig Safari Lodge features just six chalet-type suites catering for 12 guests at a time, making it ideal for exclusive-use bookings for families or groups of friends. The sense of place comes through strongly, with the colour palette in each room inspired by the purple and green hues of local birds and plants. Indoor and outdoor showers, a private veranda, a minibar and a bath add to the amenities.

The communal areas are just as thoughtfully decorated. The open-plan kitchen is a favourite place to hang out, and outdoors the centrepiece is the covered lounge with its arresting views. There’s also a pool overlooking the waterhole.

Location & Getting There

There are multiple daily flights to RockFig Safari Lodge in Greater Kruger from Johannesburg and Hoedspruit Airport. There’s also a daily direct flight from Cape Town to Hoedspruit. From Johannesburg it’s a 45-minute drive; from Johannesburg, five and a half hours.

Weather

Dry season is from May to September when temperatures range from 9–24 °C and there is almost no rain. Green season takes place between October to April when the higher summer temperatures range from 20–40 °C. Rainfall tends to be short and sharp, with exciting electric storms in the afternoon and early evening.
