The restored classic trains accommodate up to 72 passengers in opulent surroundings with wood panelling, period décor and traditional furnishings.Each of the 36 elegant suites is designed for maximum privacy and combines old-world charm with contemporary comforts. The Royal Suites are ideal for those wishing to indulge.

Indulge in an afternoon tea in a Victorian atmosphere in the dining car or sip a glass of South African fine wine as you watch the spectacular scenery. An array of off-train excursions are on offer and may include visiting historic villages, game viewing or boat cruises.

Location and getting there

Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria is 61 km from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. The station in Cape Town is 19 km from the international airport.

Accommodation

There are three different categories of accommodation: Pullman Suites (7-sqm), Deluxe Suites (10-sqm) and Royal Suites (16-sqm). All air-conditioned rooms feature double or twin beds, wood panelling, Edwardian furnishings and an en-suite bathroom with shower. The four spacious Royal Suites benefit from the addition of a private lounge area and full bathroom with Victorian bath.

Activities

Off train excursions include photo safaris, game viewing, white water rafting, city tours, river cruises and overnight stays at game reserves.

Children

Rovos Rail does accommodate children but please bear in mind it has a grown-up feel. Long journeys are not recommended for children under 13. There are no child-minding facilities or activities for children.
