The horses are well schooled thoroughbred and thoroughbred cross, with many of them home bred. All of them are responsive, tough and fit. Many are trained for polo, and the best ones are handpicked for each guest on their riding safari. Offbeat Safaris also has an excellent reputation for providing guides who are top horsemen, passionate about Kenya's wildlife and great hosts.

Most of the rides take place alongside the Maasai Mara and through the northern ranches. Good riding ability is important and guests should be comfortable at all paces, including being able to gallop and react safely while riding in areas where wildlife is abundant. You’ll ride between four and six hours a day.

Accommodation is in basic but spacious tents complete with twin camp beds, mattresses, sheet and blankets. Towels, soap, torches and lamps are provided. Each tent has a long drop toilet and bucket showers are available.

Delicious picnic lunches are carried in saddle bags on days that the camp is moved. Evenings are spent around the camp fire, sharing stories and sampling home cooked food, before making your way to your tent.
