Offbeat Mara Camp

On the Olare Orok River in the Mara North Conservancy, Offbeat Mara Camp in Kenya offers a traditional safari experience a stone’s throw from the Maasai Mara Game Park.

Large walk-in canvas tents with cedar beds, solar lighting and fine linens provide comfortable accommodation in seven safari tents, including two family options. All tents feature en-suite bathrooms with hot-pressure showers, washbasins and flush loos, as well as their own private verandah.

There is a large living room under canvas, complete with a well-stocked bar, library and comfortable sofas. The main mess area also includes a dining room, fireplace and forest deck.

Offbeat Mara Camp is an ideal base for morning, afternoon and evening game drives. Guests can also enjoy guided bush walks, picnics and meals in the bush, hot-air balloon safaris, sundowners and evenings around the campfire, reflecting on the adventures of the day.

Location & Getting There

Offbeat Mara Camp is nestled in a valley on the Olare Orok River, deep in the heart of the Mara North Conservancy, offering easy access to the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve. International flights arrive at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. From there, it is a short drive to Wilson Airport, with scheduled flights to Mara North Airstrip. Guests are met on arrival by an Offbeat guide and transferred to camp, often with a gentle game drive en route.

Accommodation

Offbeat Mara includes just seven traditional safari tents, including two family accommodation options.

The large walk-in canvas tents feature cedar beds, solar lighting and fine linens, along with en-suite bathrooms with hot-pressure showers, washbasins and flush loos. Each tent also has a private verandah overlooking the surrounding bush.

Three standard safari tents offer double or twin accommodation, while two larger safari tents provide additional space. The camp also has two family options, each with two separate en-suite bedrooms, making them well suited to families or friends travelling together.

Wi-Fi and charging facilities are available in the guest tents and main mess area.

The heart of Offbeat Mara Camp is the main ‘mess’ tent, which features a comfortable lounge decorated with traditional Kenyan textiles, a well-stocked bar and library, a fireplace and a dining area. A forest deck offers another quiet place to sit and take in the sounds of the surrounding wilderness.

Activities

Sitting in the heart of the 74,000-acre Mara North Conservancy, Offbeat Mara Camp is an ideal location for morning, afternoon, full-day and evening game drives in custom-built Land Cruisers. The conservancy offers excellent year-round wildlife viewing and is particularly known for its big cats.

The experienced team of guides at Offbeat Mara are silver-rated by the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association and have an intimate knowledge of the area and its wildlife.

When not out on a game drive, guests can enjoy guided bush walks, picnics and meals in the bush, hot-air balloon safaris, sundowners and visits to a nearby Maasai village or local market. Evenings are often spent around the campfire, sharing stories from the day.
