Mahali Mzuri

Maasai Mara & Southern Kenya

Part of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Limited Edition portfolio, Mahali Mzuri sits within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy in Kenya’s Maasai Mara. The camp is set on a ridge with sweeping views across the valley, and its small scale – just 12 tents – makes it feel personal and exclusive. The main tent is the social heart, with open lounge and dining areas, fireplaces, a library and a broad deck facing the plains. Between game drives, guests can unwind at Nasaro Spa or the 12 metre heated infinity pool. The location is excellent for wildlife year round, with Great Migration herds often moving through this area, typically peaking around August.

Accommodation

Mahali Mzuri has 12 tented suites (including one family tent), each elevated with a private deck and panoramic views. Interiors pair canvas and timber with bespoke furnishings and Maasai inspired details. Every tent includes a king or twin bed, an en suite bathroom with walk in shower and a freestanding bathtub, plus a comfortable lounge area; the family tent adds extra space and a second bathroom.

Food & Drink

Dining is a highlight: expect bush breakfasts, relaxed lunches on the deck and dinners in the dining tent or out under the stars. Menus change regularly and can accommodate dietary requirements; sundowners in scenic spots are a daily ritual.

Experiences

Head out on twice daily game drives with expert guides, with the option of night drives in the conservancy to spot nocturnal wildlife. Guided bush walks and visits to local Maasai communities offer cultural context; hot air balloon safaris can also be arranged. Back at camp, enjoy the pool, spa treatments and stargazing from the deck.

Children

Children aged two and above are welcome. Shared game drives are for ages six and older; younger children can join drives with a privately hired closed vehicle (additional cost). Rather than a fixed kids’ club, the team tailors activities – from treasure hunts to mini excursions – to each child. A camp nurse is on site, and babysitting can be arranged with notice.

Sustainability

Operating in a private conservancy supports habitat protection and low density tourism. The camp employs locally, partners on community projects and follows a light footprint approach to energy and waste.

Best Time to Visit

Mahali Mzuri is a year round destination. For the Great Migration at this location, the prime window is often around August, though herds may pass any time between roughly July and November depending on rains.

How to Get There

Fly from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Olare Orok airstrip (about one hour), then transfer approximately 25 minutes by camp vehicle to Mahali Mzuri. Charter options are available. By road from Nairobi takes about 5–6 hours.
