Rosewood Mandarina

Pacific Coast, Mexico

Set on 565 acres less than an hour north of Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, the resort stretches across three distinct landscapes: a golden beach, tropical flatlands, and elevated cliffside terrain. Guests can choose to be close to the ocean, surrounded by gardens, or looking out from a high vantage point over the coastline. Rooms are generously sized, with shaded outdoor living areas and uninterrupted views of sea, jungle or mountains. The setting feels secluded yet still offers easy access to the region’s beaches, fishing villages and markets.

Accommodation

There are 134 free-standing villas and suites, each with a private plunge pool, terrace or deck. Interiors combine clean-lined contemporary design with natural materials and Mexican craft details. Beachfront villas are steps from the sand, flatland bungalows sit in tropical gardens, and new mountaintop residences will offer sweeping ocean views.

Food & Drink

The resort’s restaurants focus on fresh, regional produce showcasing Mexico’s culinary traditions. La Cocina is an airy, open-fronted dining space serving seasonal menus; Buena Onda is the place for grilled seafood and easy lunches right on the beach. There is also Toppu, with Japanese-Peruvian inspired dishes, and Barra Peñasco, a cliff-top bar with sunset views.

Experiences

Days here can be filled with both adventure and relaxation. The Asaya Spa is built around a living fig tree and offers treatments rooted in local healing traditions. Guests can ride horses along the beach, try polo on the resort’s own field, or take to the water for paddleboarding, surfing or fishing. Inland, the forest and hills can be explored on foot, by mountain bike or via the resort’s zip-line. For younger guests, the kids’ programme offers storytelling, nature walks and creative activities.

Children

Families are welcomed with plenty of flexibility and space to roam. Children stay free in suites, and multi-bedroom options work well for group or multi-generational trips. The Kids for All Seasons programme keeps children engaged with nature and local culture through hands-on activities.

Sustainability

Landscaping is planted with native species to minimise water use, and the nearby estuary is monitored in partnership with local biologists. Most art and decorative pieces are made by regional artisans, and the resort works to keep plastic use to a minimum.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season from November to May brings clear skies and warm beach days. The green season from June to October is quieter, with lush vegetation and softer light. Whale-watching is best between December and March.

How to Get There

Rosewood Mandarina is around 50 minutes by road from Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) along a recently upgraded coastal highway. Private transfers can be arranged, and helicopter arrivals are possible by request.
