Shanghai & Surrounds

Located an hour from central Shanghai in China, Amanyangyun is a peaceful sanctuary surrounded by a sacred forest of 1,000-year-old trees. Originally located 700 kilometers away in Fuzhou, the forest and heritage Ming and Qing villas were rescued from demolition and relocated to form this stylish Aman resort.

There are 24 Ming courtyard suites and 13 antique villas. The spacious, light-filled rooms fuse Aman minimalism with earthy neutral tones, natural materials, and spacious en suites. The antique villas surround ancient stone courtyards and have access to the private pool.

Lazhu restaurant puts a creative spin on Cantonese and Shanghainese cuisine, while Arva offers an Italian menu and Nama serves Japanese meals. There’s also a cigar lounge, and bar serving afternoon tea and cocktails.

Nanshufang is a cultural center dedicated to Chinese arts and crafts such as calligraphy, brush painting, and tea, and incense ceremonies. Amanyangyun also boasts a wellness center with indoor and outdoor pools and a spa.

Amanyangyun Information

Location & Getting There
Located in Maqiao Town, on the outskirts of Shanghai, Amanyangyun has located a 20-minute drive from Hongqiao International Airport and an hour's drive from Pudong International Airport.

The 13 antique resort villas and 24 club suites, painstakingly reassembled brick by brick, have been carefully designed by Kerry Hill Architects. Drawing on a nature-inspired aesthetic, the spacious and expansive suites and villas feature carved lattice shutters which cleverly regulate natural light in the rooms. Villas come equipped with courtyards and outdoor bathtubs and showers, while suite residents can unwind in their private pools and Jacuzzis.

The Nan Shufang is where guests can go to enjoy meditative sessions of ancient Chinese calligraphy and Chinese paintings in one of the nine elegant tea-rooms. Amanyangyun’s close proximity to the Pudong and historic Shanghai Bund district allows guests to enjoy the many cultural, shopping, and gourmet attractions.

While there are no specific childcare facilities at Amanyangyun, children are welcome here.

Why we recommend Amanyangyun

Thirteen villas and 1000 trees were relocated from a province 700km away to create Amanyangyun, an hour away from central Shanghai in China. One of the resorted villas is set up as a cultural center, including staff who can talk you through the renovation process. Apart from being a beautiful hotel, the activity schedule here is also very impressive and includes children’s activities such as pottery, paper cutting, and calligraphy. We also recommend taking out the free bikes to explore the surrounding area.
