The Nest @ Sossus

The Nest @ Sossus is tucked away in a lush valley on Namibia’s private Namib Tsaris Conservancy, and it backs up against the great escarpment in the Namib Desert. This valley is a true desert oasis, boasting seasonal natural water pools and falls, and this makes it a magnet for the game moving through the area.

Designed by Porky Hefer, one of Africa’s most awarded creative personalities, it took eight years, including a three-year build, to bring this project to fruition. The property consists of a shared area and three main bedrooms. The shared areas – outdoor and indoor lounge and dining areas, a study, and an open-plan kitchen – are spacious, with décor having been picked out by the designer to match the theme of being in a cosy nest. The en suite bedrooms can each accommodate six adults.

There is also a children’s playground, large pool, and a floodlit waterhole provides exciting and varied desert wildlife viewing as well as incredible birding.

Activities at The Nest @ Sossus include the chance to take walks and drives through the desert landscape to spot large mammals, and as the lodge is just a 45-minute drive away from the Sossusvlei gates, guests can also visit the famous Sossusvlei dunes and Deadvlei.

Location & Getting There

The Nest @ Sossus is located on Namibia’s private Namib Tsaris Conservancy, which is nestled between the Nubib and Zaris Mountains, a mere thirty minutes’ drive from the gateway to Sossusvlei and the Great Namib Sand Sea which has recently been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Activities

Head on safari - Namibia’s Namib Tsaris Conservancy is home to some of largest concentrations of wildlife in the area including Oryx, Springbok, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, Burchell’s Zebra, Kudu, Hartebeest, Giraffe, Steenbok, Klipspringer, Bat-eared Fox, and Aardwolf, as well as predators such as Leopard, Cheetah and Spotted Hyena. Scenic fixed-wing, helicopter and hot air balloon flights can also be arranged at an additional charge.
