Finch Hattons

Maasai Mara & Southern Kenya

Set in the heart of Kenya's Tsavo West National Park, Finch Hattons is surrounded by 35 acres of unfenced wilderness, where natural springs attract a steady flow of wildlife. The camp blends eco-conscious design with classic safari style, drawing inspiration from the life of Denys Finch Hatton, the legendary aviator and conservationist. Just under an hour’s flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport, the camp offers a peaceful base from which to explore Tsavo’s lava fields, volcanic peaks and open savannah. Facilities include an elevated lounge and bar, a library, a spa and wellness centre, a gym, and an infinity pool overlooking the natural springs — home to hippos and crocs .

Accommodation

There are a total of 17 tents at Finch Hattons, all positioned for privacy and uninterrupted views, as well as mosquito netting screens to allow natural light, fresh air and the sounds of the bush to flow through. The 14 Luxury Tented Suites are beautifully decorated in classic safari style, and each have elevated decks overlooking hippo pools, copper bathtubs, and indoor and outdoor showers. Two Family Suites offer two en-suite bedrooms, a shared lounge and extended deck. The exclusive Finch Hattons Suite features a master bedroom, additional bedroom for a bodyguard, private heated plunge pool, lounge, dining area, guest bathroom, kitchen, dedicated staff, private chef and exclusive-use safari vehicle. Interiors pair vintage leather and campaign furniture with crisp linens and handcrafted details.

Food & Drink

Dining at Finch Hattons is an occasion in itself, shaped by seasonal menus that celebrate Kenya’s rich produce and culinary heritage. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients form the heart of each dish, whether enjoyed as a leisurely al fresco lunch by the pool, an elegant candlelit dinner under the stars, or a refined meal on the terrace. Picnic breakfasts on morning game drives and sundowners with sweeping views add a sense of place, while the camp’s fine wine cellar, exceptional afternoon teas and discreet silver service bring an extra layer of indulgence to every meal.

Experiences

Guests can enjoy twice-daily game drives in Tsavo West National Park, home to big cats, giraffes, buffalo, rhino and abundant plains game. Other highlights include guided bush walks, birdwatching, visits to the Shetani Lava Flow, Mzima Springs, and Ol Donyo Larami Volcano, and sunrise hikes in the rare cloud forests of the Chyulu Hills. Cultural encounters include visits to local Maasai villages, and Finch Hatton’s own Maasai Olympics. At camp, guests can enjoy yoga, spa treatments, or simply relax by the hippo pool watching wildlife pass by.

Children

Children aged six and over are welcome. Young Explorers can join bush survival lessons, cooking classes and guided walks designed for families. The camp’s gentle pace and spacious suites make it well-suited to multigenerational stays.

Sustainability

Finch Hattons is guided by a strong conservation ethos, dedicated to safeguarding Tsavo’s unique ecosystem. Set within unfenced wilderness, the camp allows wildlife to roam freely and is constructed using sustainable materials, with solar power contributing to its energy needs. Community engagement is central — from supporting local schools to promoting conservation education and cultural heritage. Wherever possible, produce and supplies are sourced locally, fostering both environmental stewardship and economic sustainability

Best Time to Visit

Tsavo West is a year-round safari destination. The dry season (June to October) brings excellent game viewing as wildlife gathers at water sources. The green season (November to May) offers lush scenery, birding opportunities and dramatic skies, with wildlife still abundant.
