Offbeat Ndoto

Maasai Mara & Southern Kenya

Offbeat Ndoto is set in a secluded valley within the Mara North Conservancy, overlooking the Olare Orok River and the wildlife-rich plains beyond. With just four safari tents and one two-bedroom suite, the camp offers plenty of privacy while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and personal. Wildlife viewing is excellent throughout the year, with lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and giraffe often seen close to camp, while the annual wildebeest migration passes through the wider Mara ecosystem between July and October.

Accommodation

The four safari tents are spacious and comfortably furnished, with super king-sized beds, private sitting rooms and verandahs overlooking the valley. Each has an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, as well as Wi-Fi and charging points.

The two-bedroom Luxury Suite is set on a raised deck and works particularly well for families or friends travelling together. It has one double and one twin bedroom, both en suite, positioned either side of a private lounge and dining area. A full-length verandah looks out across the Offbeat Valley.

Food & drink

Meals are served in the camp’s mess tent beside the river, either in the dining area or outside beneath the trees. Lunch can also be arranged on the camp’s small island, shaded by old sycamore figs as the Olare Orok River runs past. Bush breakfasts, picnic lunches and private dinners beneath the stars can all be arranged during your stay.

Experiences

Days are shaped around wildlife, with morning, afternoon, full-day and evening game drives led by Maasai guides who know the conservancy intimately. The area supports large numbers of plains game and an impressive population of big cats, including the Offbeat Pride, a local lion pride followed by the camp’s guides over many years.

Guided bush walks offer a closer look at tracks, plants and smaller wildlife, while other experiences include sundowners, hot-air balloon flights and visits to a nearby village, market or local school during term time. Guests can also join a Maasai-guided run through the conservancy.

Sustainability

Offbeat Ndoto is a small, low-impact camp within the privately managed Mara North Conservancy. Its intimate scale and tented design allow it to sit lightly within the surrounding valley, while conservancy fees help support wildlife protection and the long-term stewardship of the land. The camp is described by Offbeat as eco-friendly.

Children

Families are welcome, and the two-bedroom Luxury Suite is particularly well suited to those travelling with children. Offbeat also offers reduced rates for children and teenagers, although the suitability of walks and other activities will depend on age.

Best time to go

Wildlife viewing is rewarding throughout the year. July to October usually brings the main wildebeest migration to the Mara, while January to March is known locally as the Secret Season, when the skies are clear, the grass is short and young animals are often seen on the plains.

How to get there

Fly internationally to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, then transfer to Wilson Airport for a scheduled flight to Mara North Airstrip. An Offbeat guide will meet you on arrival and drive you to camp, usually with a gentle game drive along the way.

Why we recommend Offbeat Ndoto

Offbeat Ndoto feels wonderfully removed from the busier parts of the Mara, yet the wildlife is often right outside your tent. With just five accommodations, days are flexible and the service feels genuinely personal. Our tip? Leave time for lunch beneath the sycamore figs on the secret island, where the river and surrounding bush provide all the entertainment you need.
