Angama Amboseli

Set within a private conservancy on the edge of Amboseli National Park, Angama Amboseli is a small, design-led safari lodge with uninterrupted views towards Mount Kilimanjaro. With just 10 guest suites spread across open plains frequented by elephants, the focus here is on space, privacy, and a more exclusive safari experience. Opened in 2023 as the sister property to Angama Mara, the lodge carries the same emphasis on thoughtful design and low-impact luxury, while offering a quieter alternative to some of Kenya’s busier safari regions.

Accommodation

The lodge has 10 guest suites, each positioned to face Mount Kilimanjaro. Floor-to-ceiling canvas fronts open entirely, so the views are constant, whether you’re in bed, in the bath, or sitting out on the private deck. Suites are spacious and pared back, with a mix of canvas, stone and soft neutral tones that keep the focus on the landscape. Each includes a super king bed, a large bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers, and a private outdoor area. The layout is open and intentionally simple, designed to feel connected to the surroundings.

Food and Drink

Dining is relaxed and flexible, with meals often shaped around the day’s game drives. Ingredients are fresh and seasonal, with a mix of lighter dishes and more substantial options depending on the time of day. Guests can eat in the main lodge, out in the bush, or back at their suite. Breakfasts are often served after an early morning drive, while dinners can be set up under the stars. There’s also a small bar area for drinks in the evening, often with Kilimanjaro in view when conditions are clear.

Experiences

Game drives are the main focus, with Amboseli known for its large elephant herds and open landscapes. The conservancy setting allows for a more flexible approach, including off-road driving and fewer vehicles compared to the national park itself. Beyond drives, guests can explore on foot with guided walks, visit local Maasai communities, or spend time simply watching wildlife pass through the plains from camp. The views of Mount Kilimanjaro, particularly early in the morning, are a defining part of the experience.

Sustainability

Angama Amboseli has been developed with a strong emphasis on low-impact design. The lodge runs largely on solar power, uses water-conscious systems, and has been built to sit lightly within the landscape. The conservancy model also supports local Maasai communities, with tourism directly contributing to land preservation and local livelihoods.

Best Time to go

Amboseli is a year-round destination, though the dry seasons from June to October and January to February are generally best for wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources and vegetation is thinner.

Children

Children are welcome, though the experience is best suited to slightly older children due to the nature of game drives and walking activities.

How to Get There

Angama Amboseli is accessible via a scheduled flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to a nearby airstrip, followed by a short road transfer to the lodge.
