Camille, Head of Lightfoot’s Dubai office, shares ten standout reasons why Chiva-Som in Hua Hin offers one of the most restorative wellness experiences in Asia.
I recently spent a few days at Chiva-Som in Hua Hin, Thailand – a place I’d often heard about from clients and colleagues, but hadn’t experienced for myself. It’s one of those names in wellness travel that carries an impeccable reputation. And thirty years on, it still runs with impressive confidence and depth. Here are ten things that stood out.
Easy, direct access
From Bangkok airport, it’s a straightforward three hour drive. After a long haul flight, avoiding another connection is a real luxury. The journey was smooth, and by the time I arrived, I'd already started to unwind.
Tranquil beach setting
Set on a long, quiet stretch of Hua Hin beach, the resort is framed by tropical gardens, palms, and lotus ponds. Traditional Thai architecture – teak pavilions, sloping roofs, shaded walkways – gives it a sense of heritage, which is complimented by contemporary touches.
Calm, unhurried pace
Chiva‑Som has been designed with intention, from the gentle flow of the pathways to the open pavilions and shaded nooks. There’s a natural flow to the place that encourages you to move more slowly, linger longer, and take your time.
Discreet, warm service
Staff are present without being over‑attentive, which is a fine balance. Everything from check‑in to the daily schedule feels seamless, warm, and professional.
Elegant, spacious rooms
Rooms are spacious, with wood floors, calming tones, and private terraces. The beautiful Thai pavilions set in lush tropical gardens offer the ultimate privacy. It’s all elegantly done – very comfortable, with thoughtful details throughout.
True holistic wellness
The focus here is on long‑term lifestyle change, not quick fixes. Programmes blend modern practices with traditional therapies – from physiotherapy and nutrition to acupuncture and Thai massage – all delivered in a way that feels balanced, restorative, and genuinely enjoyable.
Tailored programmes
Whether your focus is fitness, recovery, stress management or simply rest, everything is designed around your needs. There’s structure if you want it, but also plenty of freedom to adapt as you go.
Expert-led therapies
Every session I had – from massage and stretch classes to physiotherapy – was delivered with expertise and care. The standard across the team is high, with a thoughtful, informed approach. Many therapists have trained at Chiva‑Som’s in‑house academy and have been part of the team for years.
Daily classes on offer
There’s a wide variety of classes and workshops on offer, from yoga and breathwork to aqua fitness and meditation. You can fill your day or keep things simple. There’s no pressure either way, which I appreciated.
Space to disconnect
The gardens, the sea, the gentle schedule of the day – all of it encourages quiet reflection. There is no tech in public areas, and I found myself naturally reaching for my phone less and sleeping better by the second night.
The best time to visit Hua Hin is between November and February, when the climate is cool, dry, and ideal for healing. If you’re considering a Thailand wellness retreat in 2025 or planning ahead for 2026, Chiva-Som is well worth exploring. It’s not about trends or detox buzzwords – it’s about creating the space to feel better, move better, and reset. And sometimes, that’s exactly what’s needed.
