Reefs, Rituals & Remote Islands of the Philippines
Beyond the country's best-known island-hopping routes lies a quieter, lesser-explored side of the Philippines. Here, coral gardens remain remarkably untouched, ferries connect remote islands, waterfalls tumble through dense jungle, and centuries-old folklore continues to shape local life. This trip explores three of the Visayas' most rewarding yet often overlooked islands. Begin on Negros Oriental, home to Apo Island, one of the world's oldest community-led marine sanctuaries, where turtles, colourful reef fish and healthy coral thrive just offshore.
Continue to Siquijor, an island long associated with traditional healers, age-old rituals and stories of magic, where forest-covered interiors hide waterfalls, centuries-old churches and peaceful beaches. Finish on Panglao Island in Bohol, combining exceptional marine life with dramatic landscapes including the Chocolate Hills and lush countryside.
Designed for travellers who prefer authentic experiences over crowded destinations, this itinerary combines world-class snorkelling and diving with meaningful encounters on land. Stay in relaxed boutique resorts, travel between islands by ferry, and experience a side of the Philippines that remains refreshingly under the radar.
As with all Lightfoot itineraries, every element can be tailored to your interests.
