Desert Rhino

Desert Rhino is set in a wide valley in the 450,000 hectare Palmwag Concession in the Kunene Region of north-west Namibia. The Concession’s freshwater springs support healthy populations of arid-adapted wildlife such as Hartmann’s mountain zebra, southern giraffe, gemsbok (oryx), springbok, kudu, comical meerkats and inquisitive ground squirrels can be seen. Herds of desert-adapted elephants and not far off, and the occasional cheetah or leopard can be spotted as well.

Accommodation is in the form of eight Meru-style raised canvas tents with an en suite bathroom and front veranda with director’s chairs perfectly positioned to take in the magnificent vistas.

The open plan dining and lounge area is also raised on a wooden deck in a single tent with partially open sides offering panoramic views. Evening meals are taken around the fire pit, in front of the lapa, where guests can relax, socialise, and take in the Etendeka Mountains which dominate the scenery.

Location & Getting There

Desert Rhino Camp is located at Palmwag Concession. It is 3 hours by air from Windhoek Airport.

Accommodations

Desert Rhino Camp comprises of eight raised Meru-style canvas tents with front verandas and elevated with partially open sides that allows guests to absorb and appreciate the spectacular views of the Etendeka mountains.

Activities

Guests can rhino track on foot and by vehicle or go for game drives. Guests can also take part in guided nature walks and full day outings with picnic lunch. Bird enthusiasts can also go birding and enjoy the wonders of nature in the Palmwag Concession.
