Laikipia and Northern Kenya

Set in Kenya’s Northern Frontier, Sasaab is an intimate safari lodge close to Samburu and Buffalo Springs National Reserves. A blend of Moroccan and Swahili design, this luxury lodge is in a wildlife-rich area with mesmerising views across the Laikipia Plateau and Mount Kenya.

The nine spacious, Moroccan-style rooms feature four-poster beds swathed in mosquito netting, lofty ceilings, open-air bathrooms, and open-sides leading to a veranda with private plunge pool and far-reaching views.

All meals are included, featuring local ingredients with produce from their vegetable garden. Guests dine outside, though there are options for private dining or bush picnics. There is also a spa.

Activities include game drives in Samburu and Buffalo Springs, where wildlife can be seen including rare species like the Grevy’s zebra. Enjoy guided bush walks, camel rides, or go fly camping. Back at camp, refresh with a dip in the pool while watching elephants drink at the river.

Location & Getting There

Sassab Lodge is situated in the heart of Samburu land, on a rocky ridge above the banks of Ewaso Nyiro river in north-central Kenya. The lodge can be reached by daily scheduled flights to Buffalo Springs National Reserve followed by a 1h30 drive, or a 7 hour drive from Nairobi.

Accommodations

There are 9 Moroccan-styled rooms, each over 100 sqm in size and boasting their very own private plunge pool and large open air bathrooms. Each luxury suite is spacious with airy rooms and four poster beds and offers the utmost privacy and superb views over the majestic landscape. For families or couples travelling together, the Family Suite is ideal and consists of en-suite double room and en-suite twin room with a shared living area and private plunge pool.

Activities

Game viewing is a highlight at Sasaab, whether you choose to do so by foot, by car or by camel and there is an abundance of wildlife to be spotted. Star-gazers must indulge in a night or two of fly-camping and sleeping under the stars within the wilderness. For a cultural immersion, it is possible to meet the hospitable Samburu people who will introduce you to their traditions and way of life.

Children of all ages are welcome at Sasaab though there are no specific facilities.
