North Island Okavango

Okavango Delta

North Island Okavango is one of the most exclusive safari camps in the Okavango Delta, Botswana, set on a private island within a game-rich concession. Surrounded by shimmering lagoons, winding channels and open floodplains, the camp offers a rare sense of remoteness while delivering exceptional wildlife encounters throughout the year. This unique landscape supports an extraordinary concentration of wildlife across savannah, woodland and wetland habitats. Its seven luxury tents offer an exceptional base for a luxury holiday to Botswana, offering one of Africa’s most compelling safari settings.

Accommodation

The camp features seven spacious luxury tents, including one family unit, each positioned beneath mature ebony, rain and leadwood trees with open views across the lagoon. Every tent is raised on a private deck and includes a plunge pool, sunken lounge area and outdoor seating for watching wildlife drift past. Interiors combine contemporary African design with refined comfort, featuring generous bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers and thoughtful living spaces. The layout ensures privacy while keeping the wilderness front and centre.

Food & drink

Dining at North Island focuses on fresh, locally inspired cuisine with a healthy, refined approach, served across a variety of settings from the main mess to private dining spots. Expect beautifully prepared dishes alongside a well-stocked bar featuring South African wines and classic safari cocktails. Sundowners by the firepit and oven-fired pizzas add a relaxed rhythm to evenings in camp. All meals are included, with premium beverages available at additional cost.

Activities

This region of the Okavango is defined by water, and guests explore the landscape by mokoro, boat and game drive, with the added option of scenic helicopter flights. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with regular sightings of elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, wild dog and a rich variety of birdlife. Night drives reveal the Delta’s nocturnal side, while guided walks offer a quieter perspective on the ecosystem. Between excursions, the camp’s decks, firepit, library and outdoor gym provide inviting spaces to unwind.

Sustainability

Your stay directly supports conservation and community initiatives within the NG23a community-owned concession. North Island works closely with the Natural Selection Foundation, supporting projects such as youth development programmes, lion and livestock protection, conservation education and elephant corridor transport. The camp operates on 100% solar power and is deeply committed to low-impact tourism across all aspects of its operations.

Children

Children aged six and above are welcome, making this an excellent option for a luxury family safari in Botswana. Family tents and tailored activities allow younger guests to experience the Delta in a safe and engaging way.

Best time to go

North Island Okavango is open year-round. The dry season from April to October offers high water levels for mokoro and boating safaris with excellent game viewing, while the green season from October to March brings dramatic skies, migrant birds and superb breeding activity. Each season delivers a distinct safari experience.

How to get there

Guests will fly into Maun, Botswana, followed by a 40-minute light-aircraft transfer to Kadizora airstrip, then a short 15-minute private game drive or boat transfer to camp.
