Aman Kyoto

Kyoto

Hidden within a private forest just moments from Kyoto’s famed Kinkaku-ji Temple and 16 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Aman Kyoto offers a rare sense of seclusion in the cultural heart of Japan. Set against the slopes of Hidari Daimonji mountain, the resort’s pavilions and suites are positioned among landscaped gardens and wooded pathways that frame the changing seasons. Traditional Japanese design is interpreted through clean lines, natural materials and restrained craftsmanship, creating an environment that feels both timeless and refined. It is an exceptional base for a luxury holiday to Japan, combining profound privacy with immediate access to Kyoto’s historic treasures.

Accommodation

Aman Kyoto features just 26 guest rooms and suites, including Garden Rooms, Forest Rooms, six Aman Suites and the private Residence. Each space follows a minimalist ryokan aesthetic, using wood, stone, washi paper and shoji screens to reflect the surrounding landscape. Expansive windows open onto forest, garden or mountain views, while private terraces and outdoor soaking tubs enhance the sense of retreat.

Food & drink

The resort’s two dining venues focus on seasonal Japanese cuisine and locally sourced ingredients. The Living Pavilion by Aman offers refined all-day dining, while Taka-An presents an intimate kaiseki experience through the chef’s tasting menu. Seasonal afternoon tea is served in the gardens, offering a quiet pause between excursions.

Activities

Daily wellness programming includes yoga, meditation and personalised spa treatments, alongside cultural experiences such as tea ceremony, ikebana, calligraphy and kintsugi. Guided nature walks introduce guests to the surrounding forest and seasonal landscape, while private dining can be arranged in secluded corners of the property. Beyond the resort, Kyoto’s major temples, shrines, bamboo groves and historic districts are all easily reached.

Children

Children are welcome, with family-friendly cultural activities and outdoor excursions available. However, the peaceful atmosphere and focus on quiet reflection make the resort best suited to adults or older children.

Best time to go

Spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) showcase the most stunning scenery, with cherry blossoms and autumn foliage at their peak. This popularity makes these months the busiest for travel. In contrast, winter offers a quieter experience, while summer brings a lively festival season and warmer, more humid weather.

How to get there

Aman Kyoto is located in the northern hills of the city, approximately 15–20 minutes by private transfer from Kyoto Station. Kansai International Airport is around 1.5–2 hours away by private transfer, while Osaka Itami Airport is roughly an one-hour private transfer.
