Ongava Lodge

Etosha National Park

Perched atop a rocky outcrop overlooking a waterhole in the private Ongava Game Reserve is Ongava Lodge, the original luxury safari lodge near Etosha in Namibia. Ongava Lodge is one of Namibia's premier lodges on one of the country's most important private game reserves.

The well-established Ongava Lodge is situated in the privately owned Ongava Game Reserve along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park. Placed as it is close to the top of a hill in the foothills of the Ondundozonanandana range, the vantage point is beautiful and overlooks a well-frequented waterhole and the plains beyond.

Ongava Lodge offers luxury accommodation in 14 rock-and-thatch en-suite chalets. There are impressive views over the camp's waterhole from the main lounge and dining areas and an inviting pool to cool off in the day's heat. Meals are served in the main dining area under thatch or on the dining deck under the stars.

Activities include game drives into Etosha, spending time in the camp hide, and nature drives and walk on the reserve. Ongava has resident white and black rhinos, allowing guests staying at Ongava to see both species.

Ongava Lodge Information

Location and getting there

The camp is situated along the southern boundary of Etosha National Park in the privately owned Ongava Game Reserve, Namibia. It is a 1.5-hour flight from Windhoek International Airport.

There are 14 chalets including one family chalet. 11 of the chalets have twin beds, and two have double beds. Each one features a mix of contemporary and traditional African decor, a colour palette of oranges, browns and creams, glass doors leading to a covered verandah, an ensuite bathroom with an outdoor shower and all-modern amenities.

Activities are focused on day and night game drives, hikes and bush walks, bird watching, visiting the viewing hide and rhino tracking to spot Ongava’s thriving population of White and Black Rhino.

The lodge welcomes children over the age of six, but the camp has a grown-up atmosphere and is better suited to families with older ones. The camp is unfenced.

Why we recommend Ongava Lodge

“It doesn’t get more exclusive than Ongava Lodge. The location is stunning with great views from its hilltop location, and it looks and feels a lot like a giant tree. Sumptuous rooms boast South African pine beams, armchairs and large wardrobes, vast showers and thatched canopies. The wildlife viewing opportunities are superb - even from the decking area in front of the restaurant where you're almost within touching distance of thirsty rhinos and lions.”
