Swakopmund

Swakopmund is one of the strangest places in Africa: an old colonial German town in Namibia located where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Namib Desert. As well as radiating old-world charm, Swakopmund balances laid-back beach town vibes with a growing reputation for adventure sports. Add it all up and you have a unique and immensely enjoyable African location.

Walk along the lovely seafront promenade with its swaying palms and enjoy the odd mix of 19th century timbered mansions, interesting boutiques, great seafood restaurants, and lovely beaches where surfers, anglers and beach lovers congregate in the balmy sunshine. We’ll have you staying grand colonial hotel, while we also arrange luxury safaris out in the romantic desert.

The giant, famous sand dunes of the Namib are south of the Swakop River, and this is where the region earns its reputation as the “Adventure Capital of Namibia”. Here adrenaline junkies can try everything from skydiving to quad biking, camel safaris to paragliding, and the local favourite activity – sandboarding down the vast dunes.

Our Travel Designers recommend Swakopmund as a wonderful first introduction to Africa. As all our luxury holidays are 100% tailor-made, you can combine a trip here with a safari or wildlife tour. Enquire now and find out more!
