Discoverer

Antarctica

Discoverer is a small expedition ship designed for polar travel, carrying a limited number of guests to keep the experience personal and flexible whilst exploring the Polar regions. It’s well suited to Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands, where conditions can shift quickly and the best moments often come from being able to adapt. Days are shaped by the environment. You might be stepping ashore on the Antarctic Peninsula, cruising past ice formations by Zodiac, or spending time watching wildlife at close range. The aim is to make the most of time off the ship, while having a comfortable and well-run base to return to.

On Board

Life on board is easy and informal. There’s a natural rhythm to the days, shaped around landings and weather conditions rather than a fixed schedule. The Observation Lounge is where most people spend time between excursions, watching the scenery or warming up with a drink. The expedition team is a big part of the experience, offering talks and briefings that give useful context to what you’re seeing.

Meals are taken in the main restaurant, with a relaxed, sociable atmosphere and a mix of international dishes, with an emphasis on good food and easy service. There’s also a wellness area with a sauna and steam room, along with outdoor jacuzzis, which are particularly welcome after a cold day ashore.

Accommodation

Cabins have been refurbished in recent years and feel fresh and comfortable, with a contemporary finish throughout. There’s a good range of options, from spacious suites with private balconies to staterooms with large windows or portholes. Across all categories, the focus is on space, natural light and having everything you need to rest properly after time spent outdoors.

The Experience

Discoverer is built for exploration. Its ice-strengthened hull and fleet of Zodiacs allow for regular landings and close-up wildlife encounters, with itineraries shaped by conditions and opportunities along the way. This is an active style of travel, with time spent ashore, on the water, and closely connected to the landscape.

Voyages typically operate from Ushuaia to the Antarctic Peninsula, often combined with the Falklands and South Georgia. Some itineraries begin in Valparaíso, travelling through the Chilean fjords before reaching Antarctica.
