Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
Located in Zimbabwe’s famed Hwange National Park, Little Makalolo Camp is discreetly tucked away in a teak forest, overlooking a vibrant waterhole that sees a regular procession of wildlife coming down to drink. Wildlife is the heart of every visit, with opportunities to view incredible game. On morning and mid-afternoon game drives in open 4x4s, and on walks with an expert guide, guests can expect to see large antelope herds, loping giraffes, and majestic elephants. Birdlife is also abundant in the area, with over 400 species recorded in the park.
The camp offers the luxury of privacy for guests who enjoy an exclusive experience in the remote wilderness. Just six traditional African tents (including one family unit) sit on site, offering spacious accommodations with ensuite bathrooms featuring indoor and outdoor showers. Linking the tents to the main area are teak walkways that wind to the centre of camp, where a separate dining and living area, with an open fire, await for evening fireside tales.
Lightfoot Travel provides tailor-made itineraries that include daily tours and excursions, restaurant recommendations and bookings, and can incorporate Hwange National Park into a greater Zimbabwe or African holiday. Little Makalolo Camp Information
- Location & Getting There:
Little Makalolo is set on a private concession in the heart of Hwange National Park. The camp can be accessed by road or air from Victoria Falls. The drive takes about 4 hours. Light aircraft can be chartered to land at Makalolo Airstrip, which is a short drive to camp.
The six tented chalets of Little Makalolo combine the classic canvas structures of a typical bush camp with the comforts of a contemporary safari lodge. Timber structures are covered by canvas and mesh, allowing a breeze to blow through the rooms in the hot summer months, with the ability to be closed for warmth in the winter. Each tent also has a writing table with views out to the bush.
Woven rugs cover cool concrete floors, providing soft and colourful accents underfoot. Crisp white linens sparkle under the warm lights. Copper basins are polished to a shine in the ensuite bathrooms. Double doors open onto small shaded verandas, a spot to relax in the heat of the day.
