Magma Hotel

South Iceland

Set in one of the most beautiful regions of South Iceland, Magma Hotel is just a few kilometers from the twin waterfalls of Kirkjugólf and Systrafoss. This intimate, modern lodging is surrounded by nature with magnificent views of the sweeping landscape.

Accommodation is in 12 individual turf-roofed cabins that overlook a lava field and lake rich in birdlife. Inside, the modern design boasts Nordic style with volcanic grey tones, cozy throws, and underfloor heating, while patio doors lead to a private seating area overlooking the lake.

The main lodge houses a stylish restaurant, Bistro 1783, named after the year of the Lakagígar eruption, which defines the local geology. Meals are hearty, home-cooked affairs, and the bistro serves complimentary tea and coffee.

Explore the glacial landscape of Jökulsárlón, hike to the Eldhraun lava field, visit Vatnajökull glacier, and spot the varied birdlife. In winter, tour ice caves and watch for the Northern Lights.
