PenangBuilt in 1885 by the Sarkies brothers, the Eastern & Oriental Hotel is a George Town institution. This all-suite hotel oozes colonial elegance but has plenty of modern comforts, while its prime seafront location is ideal for exploring the UNESCO-listed old town.
The original part of the hotel, the Heritage Wing, houses 100 suites that reflect the comfort and style of a bygone era. The 132 suites in the newer Victory Annexe fuse contemporary design and state-of-the-art technology with colonial style.
There are five restaurants, ranging from the casual Poolside Terrace and buffet-style Sarkies to the colonial splendour of 1885, which serves traditional afternoon tea and contemporary classics. Farquhar’s Bar exudes the ambiance of a private club – ideal for sipping a G&T.
The wonders of George Town are on your doorstep, but there’s plenty to amuse you in the hotel, including two swimming pools, a gym, cookery and yoga classes, and the Panpuri Organic Spa, which offers Thai and Oriental massages.
