Time & Tide King Lewanika

Zambia

Time + Tide King Lewanika is the only permanent camp in Liuwa Plain National Park; its six open-front luxury safari tents (including a two-bedroom, two-bathroom luxury family tent) are the essence of pure and simple luxury. Built using local techniques and sustainable materials, they run on solar power and are furnished using vintage leather, cotton and canvas - a nod to old-world safari days. Designed to immerse you in the vast landscape completely, each has an indoor and outdoor shower, a comfortable lounge and a verandah, all with stunning views over the plains.

The destination is known as a photographer’s dream, with every season offering a different backdrop for capturing the robust wildlife. Join our experienced guides on an intimate safari excursion to admire some of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife - including a growing cheetah population - on foot, in a vehicle or by canoe (in season).

Every season in Liuwa Plain National Park is a special one. During the dry season (Oct – Nov) guests visiting have the opportunity to witness the second-largest wildebeest movement in Africa. Between January and May the arrival of the rains transforms the Liuwa plains from vast golden grasslands to a watery wonderland, making it a photographer's dream and giving guests the opportunity to experience the vastness of Liuwa Plain National Park from the water.

Built and operated by Time + Tide, the lodge was conceptualised in collaboration with African Parks, the Zambian Department of National Parks and Wildlife, and the Barotse Royal Establishment.

  • Walking Safaris - The traditional Walking Safari is the ultimate way to slow down, reconnect with nature and experience Africa.
  • Canoeing safaris (In Season) - From January to May, the annual floods turn vast swathes of the park into wetlands, making it the perfect time to venture out on the plains by canoe.
