Anderssons Camp Ongava

Namibia

Nestled in mopane scrub on white calcrete soils, Andersson’s Camp is situated 4.5 km from Etosha’s Andersson Gate in Namibia. The camp was named after Swedish explorer Charles Andersson – one of the first Europeans to discover Etosha, Africa’s largest saltpan.

The resurrected former farmstead that stands on the site now forms the centre of a charming camp fronting onto a productive waterhole. The 18 tented en suite units, including two family suites, are raised on decks. The camp is an exciting example of sustainable construction; this model of eco-sensitive lodging provides an authentic, safe and down-to-earth experience for small groups, families and independent travellers to the Etosha region and is easily accessible by either road or air.

The social area at Andersson’s Camp is where guests gather for meals and to meet fellow wildlife enthusiasts, guides and naturalists. There’s also an open-air dining area, a spacious lounge and bar, a sunken observation terrace and open fireplaces.

A centrally positioned infinity-edge swimming pool and surrounding lounge area allows for relaxing in sheltered nooks with views of the waterhole and beyond.

Location & Getting There

Anderssons Camp is situated 4.5 km from Etosha’s Andersson Gate in Namibia.

Accommodation

Formerly an old farmstead, the camp is nestled in mopane scrub with the scenic backdrop of the low Ondundozonanandana mountain range and is an exciting example of sustainable construction. Each of the 20 tents is raised on decks for enhanced views of the passing wildlife, while the main area overlooks a productive waterhole.

Activities

Activities include morning and/or afternoon game drives in Etosha National Park, and morning and afternoon/evening drives (on request in camp) and nature walks on Ongava Reserve. The sunken hide at the waterhole in front of camp is an excellent place from which to watch wildlife coming down to drink.

Children

Children are most welcome at Anderssons Camp, although the experience may be better suited to those aged 8+.

Why we recommend Anderssons Camp Ongava

Anderssons Camp Ongava, Etosha National Park, Namibia

Located in Namibia’s Etosha National Park, Anderssons Camp Ongava offers a flood-lit underground hide where you can linger all day and night and have some truly intimate vantage points to the life that visits the waterhole. Nothing quite compares to sitting in silence in the dark and hearing a black rhino slurp water or watching a stand-off between lions. Another highlight of the lodge is its Research Centre, which is highly informative with easily understandable statistics, and one of the best visitors centre I’ve visited in Namibia.
