Sitting at 3260 metres, Simien Lodge in Ethiopia is famous for being the highest hotel in Africa, making it the ideal stay for adventurous travellers who crave a little extra comfort.

There are 26 main rooms (or ‘tukel’ - the name that Ethiopians give to a house). In the case of Simien Lodge, the tukel forms two rooms with two bathrooms with a shower. Rooms are tastefully decorated in Ethiopian décor with original artworks, and feature under-floor heating by solar power, quilts with pure white cotton sheets and hot water. The family rooms comprise of two rooms and a bathroom.

In the evening a set meal is served in the cosy restaurant. An a la carte menu of Ethiopian and European food is on offer throughout the day, and a special Champagne Lunch is available upon request. There’s also an authentic and homely-feeling bar complete with warm furnishings and the title of ‘the highest place to get a drink in Africa’.

Entertainment takes place most evenings, or you may prefer to simply relax while watching the stars above the incredible landscape.
