Wayra Lodge

Cusco, Sacred Valley, & Machu Picchu

Tucked in a windswept valley beneath the imposing Humantay Mountain, Wayra Lodge is the second lodge on the Salkantay Trail en route to Machu Picchu. Owned and run by Mountain Lodges of Peru, this eco-friendly lodge is a welcome sight after crossing the challenging Salkantay Pass.

Wayra Lodge is inspired by traditional Incan building techniques, and constructed from a mix of stone, adobe, wood and straw. The eco-friendly lodge contains six private, heated rooms, each with double or twin beds draped in down comforters, and en suites with hot showers and organic toiletries.

The lodges are designed to provide welcome respite on a fairly challenging trekking route. Wayra Lodge has a cosy reading room, lounge with fireplace, and outdoor Jacuzzi for a high altitude soak. There’s also a dining room serving hearty Peruvian-fusion cuisine.

If you have the energy after the challenging route there, you can opt to hike to a nearby glacial lake.

Why we recommend Wayra Lodge

“This is a magical and remote spot run by a charming local family, and it will suit those who that don’t want to sleep in tents after a hard days trekking, but who still want to really take it all in. The eco-friendly lodge contains six private rooms, each with double or twin beds and en suites with hot showers. There’s also a cosy reading room, lounge with fireplace, and the high altitude Jacuzzi is out of this world!”
