The Jalakara

India

The epitome of barefoot luxury, Jalakara is a rustic retreat on coral-fringed Havelock Island in the Andaman Islands. Originally a banana and betel nut plantation, it’s surrounded by tropical rainforest and offers the informality and exclusivity of a private villa with the bespoke services of a boutique hotel.

There are three rooms, three suites and a private villa, each with their own character and style. Traditional Indian textiles and artefacts adorn the rooms, along with a patio or terrace and indoor/outdoor bathroom. The villa is ideal for families or those seeking privacy, with a kitchenette, separate living space and plunge pool.

Owner and chef, Marko Hill, dishes up meals based upon local produce with British and Asian influences. Jalakara is one of few places with an alcohol licence, and they serve creative cocktails.

Explore the island, laze on the beaches, relax around the infinity pool and indulge in a massage in the open-air spa.
