Cliveden House

England

Located on 376 acres of National Trust gardens, Cliveden House Hotel was built in 1666 and boasts a history of intrigue and glamour. Home to Dukes, Earls, and the UK’s first female MP, in more recent times it was the setting that ignited the Profumo Affair and the hotel where Meghan Markle stayed before she married Prince Harry.

This Relais & Chateaux property has 47 guestrooms and suites, plus a private cottage. Rooms are named after figures from the house’s past and decorated accordingly, complemented by state-of-the-art technology and marble bathrooms. Some rooms feature private hot tubs, while others have views of the Thames.

Once you have explored this beautiful setting, dine in one of the magnificent restaurants – the relaxed Astor Grill, or in the chandeliered Cliveden Dining room – both offering an exquisite selection of seasonal dishes, wine, and cocktails. Afternoon Tea is prepared and served fresh each day, along with a selection of full-bodied and aromatic Cliveden tea blends.

There’s plenty to do from wandering around the gardens to a romantic cruise on the Thames and an afternoon in the spa.

Why we recommend Cliveden House

The former home of several Dukes, and the hotel where Megan Markle stayed the night before her wedding to Prince Harry, is shrouded by a fascinating history and intrigue, and one of the UK’s finest properties. Surrounded by acres of ancient woodland, the setting is sublime. Inside, the best suites are The Lady Astor and The Prince of Wales, on the first floor of the main house.
