San Jose & the Central ValleyPerched above Costa Rica’s Central Valley, Xandari Resort and Spa is surrounded by gardens with sublime valley views. A few kilometers north of Alajuela, this luxurious resort offers artistic villas, mouth-watering Costa Rican cuisine, and a delightful spa, while its proximity to the airport means it’s a great introduction to the country.
There are 24 spacious villas dotted around the plantation. The colorful rooms feature unique artworks, mosaic tile works, and stained-glass windows – the work of one of the owners who also gives art classes. All villas have terraces with daybeds and views.
The restaurant operates on a farm-to-table policy, using local ingredients for healthy Costa Rican, Californian, and Mediterranean cuisine. Most of the fruit, vegetables, and herbs are grown on the grounds.
There’s a 12-acre forest reserve to explore, which is a birding hotspot with numerous species. There are also three swimming pools and a wellness spa with Jacuzzis and a range of natural treatments.
