Madikwe Safari LodgeMadikwe & the Waterberg
Comprising three separate luxury properties, Madikwe Safari Lodge sits on the Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa’s north-western province, bordering Botswana. This area, where the Kalahari meets the bushveld, is renowned for providing some of the best malaria-free game-viewing experiences in South Africa.
Lelapa (meaning ‘family’) Lodge has twelve suites and welcomes children of all ages. Family safari drives, pizza making in the ‘boma’, star gazing and many other ‘Madikwe Cubz’ activities ensure that kids are kept busy, with those as young as two permitted on the dedicated family drives in the late morning.
Kopano Lodge has four suites with private plunge pools and a beautiful open decked sitting/dining area. Further up the mountain side, with superb views across the plains, is Dithaba Lodge, whose more remote location lends itself to families or private groups.
Madikwe Game Reserve is renowned for its game viewing and diverse wildlife. Fewer vehicles here mean additional exclusivity, and crucially, sightings of more animals.

“This trio of lodges sit in one of South Africa’s largest game reserves which also happens to be the best non-malarial safari area in Africa. Perched on a hillside, the collection of three lodges feature suites with private plunge pools, open-plan sitting areas, and lots of activities for all ages on offer. Our top spot is lounging by Lelapa’s swimming pool overlooking a waterhole and watching elephant, giraffe and zebra.”
