Beach, Four Seasons Koh Samui

After two weeks exploring Thailand, trying out and visiting some of the best properties in the country, Lightfoot Travel’s Mei Yun reveals her favourite hotel in the country and explains what makes the Four Seasons Koh Samui such a wonderful hotel.

Where is Four Seasons Koh Samui located?

The Four Seasons Koh Samui is ideally located: just 30 minutes from the airport, which means that your beach retreat is just a short way away once you get off the plane. It’s also 30 minutes from Chaweng, which is Koh Samui’s bustling area, so you are not too far from all the entertainment, but far enough that you are not bothered by it. For some shopping, Nathorn is just nearby.

Plus the property is located on two private bays; the beach is for the exclusive use of Four Seasons Koh Samui’s guests.

What were your first impressions when you arrived in the hotel?

When we came into the hotel’s small drive, I was unsure what to expect. Then, as we made our way to the arrival lounge, just one word came to mind: wow! The view over the ocean was incredible, and you got a good sense of the property’s size as you can see it spread out across the hills. Though the hotel is built on slopes and it can get quite tiring walking from point A to point B, there are always buggies available to bring guests around.

What activities did you partake in whilst there? Any unique activities to try out?

You will not want for activities whilst at the Four Seasons Koh Samui. Pick your level of intensity from not at all at the spa to extreme with a Thai boxing lesson and everything in between: kayaking, stand-up paddle board, yoga, meditation classes, cooking classes, working out at the gym,… Personally, I would go for the Thai boxing class, just so you can enjoy the spectacular view from the ring!

What room did you stay in?

I stayed in a deluxe pool villa, which as its name suggests, boasts its very own private pool. The room was fantastic and spacious with a clear emphasis on comfort and was tastefully designed. The bathroom was massive and the high ceilings further enhanced the feeling of spaciousness. What I particularly enjoyed was that the bathtub and bed were angled so as to make the most of the view, right from the moment you wake up or whilst soaking in the tub. Though the rooms are not excessively spaced out, you still get a very good sense of privacy and seclusion.

Tell us about the food?

Pla Pla (‘many fish’ in Thai), is located right on the beach and serves up divinely fresh fish and seafood. Western and Thai dishes are also cooked up in this lovely eatery. Service was excellent and the staff very attentive, without being to overbearing. I was bitten by mosquitoes and asked for a mosquito coil, which they provided, as well as insect repellent. Very thoughtful.

Who does this property cater to?

Families and couples alike will have a memorable time in Four Seasons Koh Samui. The rooms are private and secluded enough that couples are guaranteed a romantic time away whilst families have a great kids’ club to entertain the younger ones as well as two to five bedroom residences to make the family holiday comfortable and fun for all.

Top 3 highlights

  1. Excellent service – the staff speaks good English so no issue on communication. Buggies always arrived on time. Some personal touches from housekeeping were much appreciated – they noticed that I’m prone to mosquito bites so they added extra insect repellents for me and gave me some screen wipes for my laptop.
  2. Rooms – simply luxurious!
  3. Beach – definitely one of the best beaches in Koh Samui
