Luxury Art Journey, Hong Kong: 22 – 26 March 2017

Any art enthusiast will know that Art Basel is one of the highlights of the annual art calendar. We have created the ultimate art journey, providing access to some of the most exclusive and prestigious galleries, studios and private collections, giving you an insight into the most significant artists in Asia and the prolific world they inhabit.

We will take you from Art Basel to Art Central, where you will have VIP access, and to private residences to show you some of the most impressive private collections in the world, which are usually inaccessible to the public.

Day 1: 22nd March - arrival

On arrival into Hong Kong airport, you will be met by a Lightfoot Travel representative and transferred to your preferred hotel – the Mandarin Oriental or the Upper House.

Day 2: 23rd March – Hong Kong Art Basel

You will be collected from your hotel this morning and driven to Art Basel. On arrival you will be met by Nick Wood, Director of Pearl Lam Gallery and an authority on contemporary art. The expert’s knowledge of art is unsurpassed, and his tour will offer a deep insight into the exhibitions.

Before lunch visit the blue-chip galleries such as the Gagosian Gallery, Ben Brown Fine Arts, David Zwirner galler, Pace gallery and of course the Pearl Lam Gallery. We will introduce you to the directors of each who will talk you through their exhibitions.

Enjoy a VIP lunch at Duddell’s, a one Michelin-star restaurant that has the best dim sum in Hong Kong, or so we think! Founder Alan Lo is also an avid art collector and the walls are often adorned with works from his private collection. An artist’s panel discussion will take place throughout lunch, focusing on the subject “Is the art industry focusing too much on sales? The importance of Non-Profit Foundations in Asia”. The panel will be comprised of powerful influencers in the industry.

Spend the afternoon admiring the art in the last section of Art Basel, which consists of prominent western galleries such as the White Cube Gallery. End the day with a short talk from Megan Leckie, head of VIP Art Basel.

Day 3: 24th March – Hong Kong Art Central & Private Collections

This morning you will be taken to Art Central, a show that focuses on young and emerging artists. We will take you around the galleries and introduce you to the artists and directors. After lunch at one of the two bespoke pop-up dining experiences, enjoy a tour with an artist named by Hong Kong Tatler as one of the most talented professionals in the art world. This individual has brought countless public art installations to Hong Kong, and is launching his own gallery in Autumn 2017.

Day 4: 25th March – Hong Kong Artists’ Studios

This morning you will be collected and driven to João Vasco Paiva’s studio. Paiva is considered one of Hong Kong’s leading emerging contemporary artists. Not only has his work has been exhibited world-wide, he has received numerous awards including the Hong Kong Emerging Artists Grant.

Lunch will be at Bibo, which is said to house one of the best collections of contemporary art in Asia with works by artists such as Banksy and Jeff Koons adorning the walls. You will be privy to a panel discussion over lunch on ‘Art in Asia, the new frontier’. In the afternoon visit Michael Wolf’s studio and admire his fantastic projects, many of which document the architecture and vernacular culture of cities. Wolf boasts an impressive CV: as well as being exhibited at the Venice Biennale, amongst others, he has previous won first prize in the World Press Photo Awards and has published 13 photo books.

Day 5: 26th March – Hong Kong Private Collections

Today visit an exclusive private collection, which boasts work from incredible artists from Francis Bacon to Gerard Richter. It is a treat to view these spectacular works of art which aren’t usually accessible to the public.

Enjoy lunch at the original Dai Pa Dong in the wet market, following which we stroll through the market admiring the countless local vendors and sample the local delicacies.

After lunch we will be welcomed into the home of another amazing private collector. This collector rarely opens up their home and it is a privilege to view the incredible collection.

Day 6: 27th March - Departure

This morning you will be collected from your hotel and driven to the airport. Alternatively, you may wish to spend some time exploring Hong Kong. We can work with each individual to add on additional activities to the itinerary, tailored to your exact needs.
