Mvuu Lodge

Malawi

Tucked on the banks of the Shire River in the game-rich Liwonde National Park, Mvuu Lodge takes its name from the local word for ‘hippo’ in honour of the park’s healthy hippo population. Run by Central African Wilderness Safaris, this lodge has a handful of tents and an abundance of wildlife and landscapes to discover.

There are eight stone-and-thatch tents, including a romantic honeymoon suite. Each room features double or twin beds draped in mosquito nets, a private veranda with seating, and an en suite with double vanities and shower. The honeymoon suite has a large freestanding tub.

Meals are served at the main lodge where there is also a bar, lounge, wildlife library and plunge pool.

Safari activities take centre stage with day and night game drives available. Guests can also explore local villages, and visit conservation projects and local schools.

Why we recommend Mvuu Lodge

“Mvuu Lodge is a traditional-style safari camp with rooms and living spaces built on decks high above a lagoon. Down below guests can watch the wildlife roam free, from hippos wallowing to crocodiles sunbathing on the riverbanks. The refreshing plunge pool is a relaxing place to hang out between safaris. It’s also very family-friendly here, with tents available for those with children over six-years-old.”
