Built in 1901, this three-story Victorian hotel was once one of the most luxurious hotels in the British Empire. It is now an all-suite, top-of-the-range boutique hotel located in Myanmar’s bustling capital of Yangon.
High ceilings and vast spaces are among the now rare luxuries in each of their thirty suites that will remind guests of a bygone age. Teak and marble floors, hand carved wood frame beds and ceiling fans round out the colonial charms, tastefully balanced by Burmese lacquerware and antiquities in the bedroom and separate sitting area.
But unlike the other grand old hotels in the region, the Strand’s restoration remained true to its architectural past, and it has no new wing, and no swimming pool or tennis courts. Near floor to ceiling windows let in Yangon’s abundance of natural light during the day while The Strand’s team of dedicated butlers attend to guests’ needs around the clock.
