Pamalican, Cuyo Islands, the Philippines
The postcard perfect Amanpulo seems to have it all – glistening white sand, balmy turquoise ocean, exclusivity, privacy and ultra-luxurious accommodation all on a peaceful and tropical hideaway island in Palawan.
Amanpulo is privately situated on its own island of Pamalican, in the Cuyo Islands, south-west of Manila in the Philippines. An exceptionally spectacular archipelago of over 7,000 tropical islands, dotted in the crystal-clear blue seas of South East Asia. The island is only 5 kilometres long and 500 metres across at the widest point. You are greeted in Manila by a team of ever efficient Aman staff and flown by a 19-seat twin-engine plane to the island’s private airstrip. The 40 Beach, Hillside and Treetop Casitas are modelled on authentic traditional bahay kubo dwellings, each with their own golf cart for island exploration.
This romantically remote island caters for those who wish to laze their days away, but it also caters to those looking for a little more activity. Amanpulo offers a myriad of maritime adventures as well as tennis, a high-tec air-conditioned gym, and a 30-metre pool that is perfect for laps. The newly launched Aman Spa is a peaceful sanctuary to indulge in some pampering treatments whilst overlooking the Sulu Sea.
Scuba diving and snorkelling are second-to-none at Amanpulo. The calm, tepid waters are ideal for beginners and the resort offers PADI diving certifications, for experienced divers, there’s a wealth of dive sites to chose from. Snorkellers can enjoy discovering Hawksbill and green sea turtles, colourful parrot fish, rays and a whole array of coral fish just from snorkelling straight off the beach.
Amanpulo is a great place for families and there is an excellent children’s club which has indoor and outdoor distractions including arts and crafts, movie nights, tree planting and organic gardening. Children over 8 can enjoy diving and there are also plenty of watersports available for children old enough. Some of the restaurants have kid’s menus and children will love the wood fired pizza ovens on the beach for lunch. Highchairs, cots and babysitting are also available.
