From picturesque coastal roads to dynamic deserts, Australia was designed for road trips

01

The Road Trip Along The Coast

Feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your face as you drive along the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. Give yourself three days to drive the 664km route which takes you to the surf capital of Torquay through the rainforest and to the historic fishing village of Port Fairy. Take three days to make the return trip from Melbourne to Otway National Park. You won’t want to hurry, as along the way, you will be able to find a koala walk, view Australia’s oldest lighthouse, see the rugged 12 Apostles rocks and visit Bells Beach of Point Break fame. And that’s just day one!

02

The Road Trip For Foodies

Who needs Napa Valley, when you’ve got the foodie enclave of Margaret River? Touch down in Perth and take the 275km journey to Margaret River. Along the way you can visit Bunbury and learn about aboriginal history, go whale watching in Busselton, and join eco walks along the coast. Then once you arrive in Margaret River you will want to park the car and discover just some of the award-winning food and wine that the region offers.

03

The Off-Road Adventure

You haven’t really seen Australia until you've enjoyed a trip through the Outback. So take the 660km 4WD-ride along the Gibb River Road through the Kimberley Region. See freshwater crocodiles in Windjana Gorge National Park, go on a horseback ride to a billabong and go for a bushwalk and discover Aboriginal art along the way.

04

Road Trip Across An Island

Join the Heritage Highway from Launceston to Hobart. Start with a trip to Trowunna Wildlife Park and go in search of possums, wombats and kangaroos. They take the two-and-a-half drive to Freycinet Peninsula to look out for migrating whales and dolphins who are known to make a splash in Great Oyster Bay. Then drive on to the city of Hobart where you can enjoy a coffee on its 19th-century waterfront or browse second-hand bookshops or take a trip to Derwent Valley and visit the cascading Russell Falls.
