Undoubtedly the Southern Hemisphere’s best lake and alpine resort, Queenstown is the ultimate family skiing destination.
Surrounding Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown’s scenery is breathtaking. There are four main resorts to choose from: Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cadrona and Treble Cone – all are less than an hour and a half from Queenstown Airport. Treble Cone is suited to the more advanced skiers and Cadrona is the best for accommodation.
With a huge range of activities all year round, there is never a bad time to visit. The ski season runs from June to early October with heli-skiing, snow-mobiling and good apres-ski all options. In the summer, there’s golf, hiking, sailing, biking and fishing to experience, or if lounging in a spa is more your sort of thing, head to one of the top hotels and let them pamper you. We suggest Matakauri Lodge.
With plenty of cinemas, playgrounds and nursery ski slopes, Queenstown is the ideal family destination. With plenty of wide open ski slopes and reliable ski schools like NZSki, young families will be well catered for. Obviously some summer activities are not open to young children, but for the teens especially, Queenstown is buzzing four seasons a year!
Many airlines fly direct to Queenstown (Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia) and most accommodation is only a 20 minutes drive from the airport, making Queenstown the ideal holiday destination.
