Camp right on Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni in a luxurious dome tent, with all the facilities of a hotel and beautiful furnishings at Kachi Lodge. One of a kind, sitting at the foot of the Tunupa volcano, it offers a sleek, solar-powered spin on glamping, all set at a breathless altitude of 3,600 metres.
The property is made up of multiple space station-style domes that were built for optimal stargazing - each dome features large bay windows with panoramic views on the salar and its star-studded sky. Inside, huge straw hanging-lamps, large sofas covered with dozens of cushions and reclaimed wooden furniture create a cosy, welcoming and unique place to stay. Outside, the vast terrace welcomes wooden banquettes and coffee tables: an ideal set-up for sunbathing at 3600m high.
Connected to the lounge dome, a smaller dome welcomes a high-tech kitchen where resident chefs work daily. Inspiring daily cooked meals take you on a gastronomic journey through Bolivia’s rich biodiversity: the experience is made complete with local wines and a herbal tea station.
Location & Getting There
Kachi Lodge is the first permanent accommodation of its kind on Bolivia’s Uyuni Salt Flats. It’s more than 35 miles from the nearest town and 11,800 ft above sea level.
Accommodation
Each of the six domes offer all the comfort you can expect from a luxury lodge: 28 sqm bedroom, comfortable bedding, private bathroom, with running hot water. Inside design includes bespoke furniture crafted out of regional materials, bespoke textiles and a unique painting by Gastón Ugalde – internationally known as the Bolivian Andy Warhol – set the tone in each suite.
Activities
The portfolio of activities within an hour of Kachi Lodge is vast, ranging from cultural and ethnic excursions to the ancient archaeological site and scared grounds of Alkaya – where ancient mommies can be seen - to high altitude hikes on the nearby Thunupa volcano. Some of the endemic wildlife of the altiplano can be spotted near the lodge: flamingos, vicuñas, viscachas, Andean fox. Giant cacti can be found all around the lodge.
Children
Kachi Lodge welcomes children, although it is perhaps most suitable for older kids.
