During your stay at The Sun House, you are transported back to a time when days began with a hearty breakfast and finished with a game of croquet and a gin and tonic on the verandah.

Once the home of a Scottish spice merchant, this colonial house built in the 1860s has been converted into a small hotel which exudes a country house atmosphere. Just a five-minute stroll from Galle Fort, it’s the perfect base to explore this magical and historical area of Sri Lanka.

The building has been renovated and retains all of its colonial charms, with a large central living area at the heart of the house. Rooms are tastefully furnished with tiled flooring, a clothes rack, mosquito net, and a seating area.

Delicious fusion cuisine is served and meals can be taken in the dining room, on one of the house’s airy verandas, or in the garden under the mango tree. Dick’s Bar is famous for its Arak sours and watermelon martinis.

There are also two tropical gardens: the frangipani garden leading to the swimming pool, and the mango garden which has views of Galle’s coastline.
