Montpelier Plantation & Beach

St Kitts & Nevis

Montpelier Plantation & Beach is a Relais & Chateaux Hotel set in an 18th-century sugar plantation on the slopes of Mt Nevis. Old sugar plantation houses have been made into this unique hotel which combines an old English country home with tropical Caribbean chic.

This charming hotel has 19 plantation-style rooms and two villas. All feature splashes of tropical color – deep blue, neon green –and the cool whites and greys keep the feel contemporary. There’s an outdoor space where you can enjoy sea views.

Food is a delight at Montpelier, making it a destination for visitors staying elsewhere on the island, too. Start with cocktails in the Great Room before dining on the terrace on Caribbean-inflected dishes. Indigo, the casual poolside grill, serves tapas and salad.

Take a yoga or cooking class, play tennis, or sip a rum punch by the pool. The private beach is a 20-minute shuttle ride away.

Why we recommend Montpelier Plantation & Beach

Anyone heading to Nevis is probably not looking for a typical Caribbean beach break, which is good as that isn’t what you’ll be getting here – you’ll be getting much better! The vibe is very much informal luxury with a dose of the Caribbean’s friendliest service. Guests tend to mingle in the evenings over drinks in the Great House, and while there are activities during the day, most people like to simply enjoy relaxing.
