This charming boutique hotel on the banks of the idyllic Perfume River overlooks the former Imperial Citadel. Built in 1930 as the French Governor’s official residence, the luxury hotel has been restored and converted into a stunning hotel, preserving its unique art-deco character and atmosphere of a classic colonial villa. The Residence is the ideal base to explore this former imperial city.

The 122 elegant rooms and suites capture the atmosphere of a bygone era with dark wood furniture, Vietnamese silk and classic art-deco features. All rooms have a balcony or terrace and most have breathtaking views across the river. The best rooms are in the main building, while The Resident Suite, which occupies the entire top floor of the original governor’s mansion, is surprisingly good value. It features a rooftop terrace with 360 degrees views. Connecting rooms are available for families.

The Residence’s restaurant Le Parfum is outstanding and serves an array of gastronomic delights from a buffet breakfast to innovative dishes using Asian, Vietnamese and European flavours. Meals can be served inside or on the delightful riverside terrace. There are also some excellent restaurants close by. The hotel can arrange special dining experiences including a Vietnamese poolside barbecue, a picnic lunch at Thien An Hill or a dinner cruise down the Huong River.

There is plenty to see in and around Hue, from the DMZ to the Citadel and the Emperor’s tombs and mausoleums, as well as markets and shops. The hotel also offers tailor-made tours. After a busy day seeing the sights, relax by the riverside salt water pool or experience a Vietnamese cupping massage in the fabulous spa. There are also tennis courts and a gym.
